Writing instructions
For your first essay, you are to write a personal narrative. A narrative is a first-person account of an experience in your life. This will help your instructor get to know you better. Everyone has a story. What is your story? What is an event in your life that holds significance to you? Why is it significant? Why is it meaningful? In writing your narrative you should communicate to your reader the meaning and significance of your story. The following page in our online textbook shows an example of a Personal Narrative that you may look at. Essay Guidelines: All essays must be typed, double spaced, in Times New Roman font, 12 point Page margins should be 1” You are expected to use proper grammar and mechanics—refer to a grammar guide as needed: Tips on Grammar, Punctuation, and Style https://writingcenter.fas.harvard.edu/pages/tips-grammar-punctuation-and-style (Links to an external site.) Use MLA-style header at the top left of the first page that includes your name, instructor’s name, course, and date. It should look like this: Your Name Name of Instructor ENG101 (Course Section) Day Month Year Include a title All pages should include your last name and the page number in the top right-hand corner The paper is to be a minimum of 2 pages
